As part of its 2024/2025 cultural program, the Ordine degli Architetti e P.P.C. della Provincia di Piacenza is launching a Call of ideas, as part of the initiative “Awaiting spaces”.
The Call is open to professionals who are regularly enrolled in a professional Ordine, as well as to students enrolled in a Degree Course, in fields related to Architecture, Agriculture, Engineering, Landscape.
Participants will work on the experimentation of the phenomenon of decay, abandonment, and obsolescence applied to the case of the city of Piacenza.
The Call focuses on a section of the urban landscape located along the hydraulic defense infrastructure known as the “Canale Diversivo di Ovest” in Piacenza, locally referred to as the “Canale della Fame”.
Participants are required to evaluate and select an area or an architecture that represents an ‘awaiting space’ as in a state of decay, abandonment, and obsolescence within 1 Km from the Canale for each bank.
The Call entails the three finalists selected by the Jury. The selected authors will be invited by the Ordine to participate as Speakers in the fourth event of the Initiative: the final “exhibition with dialogues” where they will present their Contribution.
The Call aims to generate an “Atlas of Contemporary Piacenza” which, in the interest of both the Discipline and the Piacenza community. The Atlas will contribute to raising awareness of the Piacenza’s urban landscape as in a state of decay, abandonment, and obsolescence to be supported as a ‘resource’ for the transformation.
